The quick and dirty:
All recipes on this site are vegan – no exceptions!
All recipes from 2011 and onward are also gluten free (xgfx)! I’m in the process of updating all pre-2011 recipes with a xgfx counterpart.
{<— I’m also part of this super rad vegan xgfx community}
I started this blog as a way to keep track of my family’s favorite recipes, so that (1) family and friends stop asking “What does a vegan eat?” and (2) my husband might cook me a meal someday. Hint, hint!
I draw inspiration from many places. If a recipe is closely adapted from another source, I’ll name it. Otherwise, it’s probably just something I threw together at the last minute. That happens a lot around here! If I tweak a recipe slightly, I’ll just quietly make the changes online and hope no one’s the wiser. If it’s a significant change*, I’ll post the new version as its own recipe. *If it’s a xgfx update of an already existing recipe, I will post the xgfx recipe in the same place as the original, rather than create a second post.
We Chews aspire to a healthy, compassionate, and sustainable food experience, which I hope is evident on this site.
My camera doubles as my mobile phone, so please don’t judge a recipe by its photo!

Hi,
My name is Olivia Mardwig from Skyhorse Publishing and I just wanted to let you know about two new books coming out this November just in time for Vegan MoFo that would be great features to blog about. The books are:
1. The Vegan Cookie Connoisseur by Kelly Peloza, which includes over 140 mouth-watering recipes, like White Russian Cookies, Spicy Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies, even Oatmeal Cream Pies! It’s hard to believe the cookies are made with all natural vegan ingredients. Each recipe appears with a beautiful, vivid photograph that look so amazing you won’t want to wait to pre-heat the oven. Dessert recipes like Eggnog Cookies and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies are great to try out before the holidays!
2. The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life by Melisser Elliott is the ultimate lifestyle handbook for anyone who wants to know where to buy the “greenest” makeup products ,where to shop at the most environmentally friendly clothing stores, even how to keep vegan while pregnant or on vacation! The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life also provides answers to the common questions that “non-vegans” ask and includes fun and funky crafts and recipes to keep things interesting!
Let me know if you’d like to see a review copy of either or both books. The authors are also available for interviews and Q&A’s .
I look forward to hearing back from you soon! Enjoy Vegan MoFo!
Best,
Olivia Mardwig
